HAP Family Challenge events are designed to help HAP families eat healthier and move more as a family. This interactive event helps participants jump-start their motivation and inspires kids and parents to cook and eat healthy meals and snacks together. Attendees gain knowledge and resources to help challenge their families to live healthier. Please note, these events are for HAP members who have children between the ages of 8 and 16.

Let’s Get Healthy! is an educational program for overweight youth ages 9 to 13. The program uses a multidisciplinary approach, including a pediatrician, behavioral therapist, registered dietitian and an athletic trainer. The program focuses on behavior modification and education rather than weight loss.

Let’s Eat Healthy! Program - Childhood Weight Management Locations: Dearborn (Fairlane), Sterling Heights, and limited availability at the Pierson, Grosse Pointe Farms and Troy Medical Centers (313) 874-7495
The Let’s Eat Healthy! program is specifically designed to help your child learn skills for leading a healthier life. Topics include healthy food choices, portion sizes, eating out and the importance of regular activity. The program is open to children ages 10 to 18 that have a weight higher than recommended for good health as determined by the child’s physician. Patients are encouraged to check with their insurance company to find out if the program is a covered benefit.

Learn proper eating habits, nutrition information and the importance of exercise and limiting screen time in this six-session program which is open to children ages 9 to 12 years and their families.

Henry Ford Clinical Weight Management Program for Older Teens
(313) 972-1919 (248) 325-3335 Locations: Clinton Township, Detroit, Livonia, West Bloomfield and Wyandotte This is a clinically-based program for teens between the ages of 15 and 19 years who are significantly overweight (above the 95th percentile or have a BMI greater than 40). It includes nutrition, behavior and exercise consultations with specialists including registered dietitians and clinical exercise physiologists. These experts help to create individualized plans that include meal replacements for portion control and aggressive weight loss (3 to 5 pounds per week). Participation requires consent and follow-up sessions with a pediatrician.

Ready, Set, Cook!
Ready, Set, Cook is a free, after-school program sponsored by HAP. Ready, Set, Cook addresses childhood obesity by teaching children healthy eating habits and food preparation skills. This hands-on cooking and lifestyle program for children ages 8-14 focuses on the American Academy of Pediatrics combination of daily habits and the winning formula known as 5, 2, 1, 0.
