If you’re vowing to eat healthier in 2019, we’ve got some delicious recipes to inspire you and to add to your repertoire next year. From a fun frozen treat to hearty comforting soup, check out some of our readers’ favorite healthy recipes of 2018.

All were developed by Henry Ford registered dietitian nutritionists with a focus on maximizing nutrition, but never sacrificing flavor. They also are easy-to-make recipes, made with affordable ingredients.

1. Banana Ice Cream 3 Ways

For a guilt-free treat, combine frozen bananas with your favorite add-ins in the food processor, freeze an hour or more … and voila! A creamy scoop of heaven without a lot of fat and calories. We share recipes for three versions of banana ice cream: black cherry chip, mango, and peanut butter chocolate.

2. Better-Than-Takeout Chicken and Peanut Lo Mein

This chicken and peanut lo mein recipe rivals the flavors of your favorite Chinese takeout place and comes together in under 30 minutes. It’s also a lot healthier. Packed with whole grains, a variety of nutritious veggies and lean protein, it has about half the saturated fat and sodium as typical restaurant versions.

3. Sheet-Pan Rainbow Vegetables & Garlic-Lemon Salmon

Sheet-pan dinners couldn’t be easier to prepare. This one features an array of colorful veggies to maximize your nutrition, as well as a heart-healthy, brain-boosting protein with this lemon-garlic salmon.

4. Avocado Chicken Salad

Whether you’re serving in bite-size portions for a party or pulling it together as a lunch on a busy weekday, this avocado chicken salad is a way to enjoy a popular classic dish in a more healthy way. It’s great in a lettuce wrap, on whole-grain bread, in cucumber cups — or straight from the bowl!

5. Heart Smart Slow-Cooker Minestrone Soup

What’s better than a warm bowl of soup on a cold day? One that’s super easy to make and full of heart-healthy veggies, of course! This minestrone is good for the soul and your heart.
